I Finally Figured It Out

I Pity The Fools
The TIT (Trust in Ted) crowd gripes my butt in their criticism of anybody who dares to say anything negative about General Manager Ted Thompson and lately with RC dorkus of any criticism of the Packers in general. But sitting here after I saw my grand nephew play soccer it suddenly came to me why they are the way they are.

Now before I give you my revelation about the TIT and rosy glasses crowds I am one of them (or at least some of them) in that I have been to Mount Everest (Lombardi, Holmgren and McCarthy) and in the Mariana Trench (Bengston, Gregg, Infante) and for that matter been to Seattle (Devine and Starr), so I have seen the highest highs (4 Super Bowl titles), the lowest lows (watching the Lombardi players either getting old or being traded away, the last two years of Dan Devine and the first six years of Bart Starr) and the blah years (the last three Starr years and the first two Forrest Gregg years) with many other under .500 seasons in between.

The majority of the TITs have only known Thompson and my revelation is they are so afraid of blowing a good thing that they will accept just good enough instead of striving for great. Thompson squandered the last years of Brett Favre with his penny pinching ways and not wanting to sign or trade for veteran backups or the final piece to the puzzle. If Randy Moss had been acquired like Favre wanted the Packers would have won one more Super Bowl.

Now Thompson is wasting Rodgers' middle and late years by not shoring up the defense (firing Dom Capers) and not bringing in a solid left tackle and few other additions. I am willing to look for someone better while the TITs are afraid of change. Nobody ever succeeded playing it safe. I pity the fools.

When we last were together....

Our dynamic team was preparing to take the plane ride west to San Francisco. The start of the 2015 season has seen two dragons slayed in handing Russell Wilson his first loss to the Packers and the first loss ever by the Kansas City Chiefs at Lambeau Field. This week we have another young quarterback who has never tasted the bitter pill of defeat to the Packers.

It's Good to be Colin Kaepernick, but not on Sunday
Colin Kaepernick has not only beaten the Packers 3 out of 3 times, but also knocked the Packers out of the playoffs twice. He has always been smug about it, especially on the sidelines during the games. I would love nothing more than to wipe that smile off his face. Everyone seems to be picking the Packers to win because of the struggles of the Jim Harbaugh-less 49ers in general and Kaepernick in particular, but a few of them left open the chance of an upset.

NOTES:

Andrew Quarless (who was put on injured reserve-designated for return) and lBryan Bulaga are out for the game with Jake Ryan and Demetri Goodson listed as doubtful, so they won't play. Morgan Burnett and Davante Adsm are listed as questionable, but I think they will be held out. The 49ers will only be missing former All-Pro tight end Vernon Davis, but he hasn't been a contributor for a few years now.

We Need Another Fritz Shurmur
Like I said yesterday the Packers defense fell into bad habits in the late third and fourth quarters against the Chiefs. The middle was wide open on 3rd-and-long and the Chiefs converted a 4th-and-18. Fourth and long should make any Packers fans cringe, especially against the 49ers. I'm not pleased. Getting off the field by the defense has been an issue in the three games against Kaepernick and the Packers are going to have to do a better job on 3rd down., but I have been saying that years now. Let's hope Dom Capers can channel Fritz Shurmur Sunday and come up with an inspired game plan.

I will go into the game officially nervous and will save the Mann's Bootleg Brew for the second (and desperation) Pouring of the Beer. Hopefully that's its niche in our Packers' world. With that in mind I will predict a Packer 38-17 win.
