Bits and Pieces

EX-Packers:

The firing of former Packer Offensive Coordinator Joe Philbin has brought a renaissance to the Dolphins offense turning a 1-3 start to a two-game winning streak under the interim coach. However, the Renaissance turned into the Dark Ages after the thumping by the Patriots on Thursday night.

However, the new found offensive excellence hasn't trickled down to former Packers' No. 1 receiver Greg Jennings. Under Philbin the 10-year veteran had caught 7 passes 54 yards (7.7 average) with no touchdowns. Since then he caught 1 pass for 13 yards in the first game - a 38-10 win over the Titans - and then doubled that production to 2 catches for 37 yards (23 long) in the 44-26 win over the hapless Texans. Against the Patriots Jennings was shutout.

He still hasn't caught his first touchdown pass of the season and his per catch average is the second lowest in his career at 10.4. His lowest came in 2012 - his last as a Packer - when he was injured and averaged 10.2 yards a catch. He missed the second game and games 5 through 12 and started only 5 of the other 8 games.

Jennings spent his first 7 seasons with the Packers and over the middle five years from 2007 to 2011 he was as good as they come catching 344 passes (69 per season) for 5,539 yards (1,108 per season) and 46 touchdowns (9 per season). He averaged 16.1 yards a catch over those 5 years.

Even during his 2-year ill-fated sojourn with the dreaded Vikings he caught 127 passes for 1,546 yards and 10 touchdowns, but his per catch average dropped to 12.2.

With the impending ceremonies on Thanksgiving to enshrine Brett Favre on the Ring of Honor I wonder if anyone noticed that another great Packer Charles Woodson, who is in the third season of his second tour with the Raiders, won't be making any visits to Lambeau Field for any announcements when he finally retires in 10 years (Yes, in 10 years).

Mr. Woodson said back in 2013, "It's not going to be tough. My last team will most likely be the Oakland Raiders and so that's who I will retire with. That won't be a tough decision at all. A couple of years ago I signed an extension here in Green Bay. I figured that this will be the last team that I played for and I looked forward to that, but it didn't happen. So now I'm in Oakland and that's where I'll retire."

Maybe Charles Woodson can't travel because he's drinking too much of his own wine
So Mr. Practical doesn't want to travel. I guess if he somehow ends up with the Chargers (Johnny Unitas), the Rams (Joe Namath), the Chiefs (Joe Montana), the Vikings (Favre and Ryan Longwell) or maybe even the Bears, heaven forbid, he will retire with them and not the Raiders. Very practical, but with his best years being with the Packers I think he should reconsider and get on a plane for his final visit to the Frozen Tundra when he finally hangs it up.

Media Matters:

For all you guys who get on us "amateur" bloggers for typos and other little annoyances, you should look in the mirror and see if your house is sturdy to withstand the rocks you throw at us.

Monday October 19, 2015, at 4:52 p.m. PackersNews.com posted a story by Robert Zizzo of Press-Gazette Media about wide receivers Kevin Dorsey and Myles White competing for the 5th spot on the depth chart - a timely story indeed considering Jordy Nelson and Ty Montgomery are injured and James Jones has been slowed down by a hamstring injury.

However, if you look on the Packer roster you will be hard pressed to find either player. Dorsey was cut by the Packers on February 17, 2015 and then released by the Patriots on May 7, 2015. White was released when Jones was signed just after the final cuts this year and after spending some time on the Giants practice squad is now on New York's active roster.

Myles White making a play on national TV
White was the one who recovered Cole Beasley's fumble on a punt return to seal the win over the Cowboys. I hope Mrs. Beasley doesn't read this and call me a sonofabitch. She evidently can't stand to have anyone make observations about her hubby.

This story is actually from the week before the August 9, 2014 preseason opener at the Tennessee Titans. In case you want to know Dorsey caught three passes for 23 yards and White caught 1 pass for 12 yards.

Now this a mainstream media outlet not just some mom and pop blogger in his/her bedroom. So be nice when you're looking down your nose on us who love the Packers and think we have something to contribute to the conversation. Your glass house has a crack in it.

Hardy Redux

The mental illness that has invaded The Star at Frisco continues to get worst. Not only did Jerry and Stephen Jones not admonish Greg Hardy for his assault of his former girlfriend (they instead signed him when nobody else would after he was let go by the Carolina Panthers) they not only did not admonish Hardy for assaulting the associate head coach/special teams coach, but they are now talking about signing him to an extension within the next few weeks as an award.

The thug that is Hardy will now figure he will get a bigger raise if maybe, I'm just spitballing here, he would kill the next man up Head Coach Jason Garrett on national TV. He could take him out to the Star in the middle of the field and stomp him to death. He could even get a bonus if he drags his ex-girlfriend by her hair to that bloody spot and blows her head off with a sawed-off shotgun.

This may sound ridiculous, but when you reward a thug for bad behavior you might get more than you bargain for.

I still predict a serious incident by Hardy by the end of the season and continued insolence on his part towards authority. When Dez Bryant is the adult in the room you know it's time to leave the room.
