First Thoughts on the Shearing the Rams

When You're Desperate Pour a Mann's Bootleg Brew
The Packers are 5-0 thanks to another good defensive performance in the mode of bend-but-don't-break. The Rams made drives, but the Packers were able to keep them out of the end zone in the second half.

One reason was the maturation of the Packers secondary along with continuing pressure by the front six and seven. A second reason and the most important in my opinion was because of the Mann's Bootleg Brew Desperation Pouring excellence.

You scoff you sorry unbelievers of the pouring - just ask Avery or Therese. The Packers were leading 21-10 at the start of the fourth quarter and had just had Mason Crosby's 47-yard field goal wiped out because of a hands-to-face penalty on Richards Rodgers and Tim Masthay, who evidently doesn't know what a coffin corner is anymore, had just punted from the Rams 39 directly down the middle of the field into the end zone making it essentially a 19-yard punt.

The momentum had changed and at that point I didn't wait for Andrew to suggest it was time for the Desperation Pouring, so I just said, "It's time."

I was worried it had lost it magic because the Rams marched right down the field in two big chunks off right tackle. Todd "Gurley Man" went 55 yards followed by Tavon Austin gaining 15 yards to the Packers 10. Two plays down, but then MBB kicked in. The next plays were Tre Mason up the middle for two yards and Gurley Man off right tackle for one.

So with third down and goal from the seven Nick Foles throws a pass right of the middle that linebacker Joe Thomas tipped and free safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix intercepted in the end zone. Last week MBB took two plays before Sam Shields picked off Collin Kaepernick this week it was five plays.

MBB then kept going protecting the Packers lead. The next drive was stopped at the Packers 45 resulting in a missed 63-yard field attempt. And the Rams final drive ended with Quinten Rollins' second interception of the day at the Packers 4. His first was a Pick-6 in the first quarter.

Quinten Rollins on his Pick-6
The Packer defense once again had a pressuring performance that resulting in four interceptions, three sacks and causing Foles to finish with a 23.8 quarterback rating (11-of-30-141-1TD-4int)

Clay Matthews at his disruptive best
For the second week in a row the offense has been struggling. The Rams defense is tough, but I don't think that was the reason the offense struggled so much. I also don't think the problem is with the offensive line. BTW Bryan Bulaga did start at right tackle and made it through the game while his partner on the right side guard T. J. Lang didn't. Josh Walker came in and did a good job, so I don't think the line is the problem with the offense right now.

I noticed during the preseason that Aaron Rodgers wasn't as crisp on his passes as he has been in the past. That troubling trend continues and the result was an interception (his second of the day after the first one was on a tipped pass - which seems to happen to Rodgers more than any other quarterback).

The running game never got untracked. If you take out Rodgers' 39 yards scrambling Eddie Lacy (13-27), James Stark (5-17) and John Kuhn (1-3) was pathetic (19-47) for 2.5 yards a carry.

Coach Mike McCarthy made the comment at halftime about how there wasn't much emotion and if you looked at how Lacy was running he was dancing around and not running downhill with power. The whole offensive team was just going through the motions for the second game in a row. So I think the problem with the offense at the moment is that they think they can just step out on the field without putting out the effort.

So they and Olivia Munn's boyfriend must stop reading their press clippings and get back to executing on the field. Those are my first thoughts and I'm sticking to them.
