The reports coming out of 1265 Lombardi Avenue are that Packers
General Manager Ted Thompson and/or his personnel department tried to sign
Brian Hoyer, but somehow the rascally Bill Belichik and the New England
Patriots beat him to the punch and signed him to replace Jimmy Garappolo as the
backup to Tom Brady. I don't believe a word of it.
But let's say it did happen then I can see just 1 reason or maybe 2 Hoyer might choose the
Patriots over the Packers. The first could be Thompson only offered him a
1-year incentive laded contract instead of the 3-year contract he received from
Belichik. The second could be he wanted to win and the Packers are going
nowhere.
I can see the first happening, but the second doesn’t fit
with Hoyer’s past. He wants to play and he would have taken over for Brett
Hundley next week if given a chance and had a chance to work with the great
receiver corps of the Packers and possible Offensive Rookie of the Year Aaron
Jones for the next 7 games to show he still has a future as a starting
quarterback.
It is also possible McCarthy informed him that Brett Hundley
is the man and he would only be a hedge against him being injured. However,
that didn’t happen because McCarthy said after not confirming the report by Ian
Rapoport of NFL Network that the Packers tried to sign Hoyer, "From
the time Aaron's been injured I've never once been involved in a conversation
about bringing in a veteran quarterback. From the Minnesota to here today, the direction that
we're going with the quarterbacks is Brett
Hundley and the guys we have here."
I would tend to
believe McCarthy on this because he is completely contradicting what the back
channels told Rapoport. So I think the back channels (directed by the puppet
master TT) were self-serving to get the pressure off Ted Thompson for not bringing
in a veteran quarterback because no General Manager worth his salt would make a trade or a signing without discussing it with his head coach.
Remember nothing
and I mean nothing comes out of 1265
Lombardi Avenue that isn’t directly directed by
Ted Thompson. There are no leaks (Trump should hire Thompson when, hopefully,
pray, pray, pray, he is fired after the season as chief of staff to stop the
leaking White House, since TT has been using Trump’s playbook to control the
press (not that he needs to since the local press led by his chief ass kisser
Larry “The “Baghdad Bob” McCarren have been so far up his ass they haven’t see
daylight for 13 years). So, I don’t think Thompson made a call or even back
channel feelers and just put out the story as FAKE NEWS.
From the minute Aaron Rodgers was injured the Packers have not entertained any other option, but playing Brett Hundley with Joe Callahan backing him up. End of story and no FAKE NEWS stories is going to change that.
I’ll leave you with
this scenario. Brian Hoyer is cut by the 49ers at 7 p.m. Monday October 30.
According to the myth Ted Thompson is burning the midnight oil showing he is still hungry and vital in his 13th year as
Green Bay Packers Executive Vice President, General Manager & Director of
Football Operations and sees the report come across his twitter feed. He pulls
his hamstring as he jumps out of his comfy chair like a high school high
jumper. He gets on the phone and calls Hoyer’s agent, who he has on speed dial
because it was clear to “The Great and Powerful Toz” Hoyer could be got or
would be released soon. He offers him a decent contract and a chance to play
almost immediately. Hoyer knowing the beeping on his phone was Bill Belichik
takes the offer for 2 reasons. 1. Everyone wants to play for the “Quarterback
Whisperer” Mike McCarthy, the greatest playcaller in the game today and
developer of Hall of Fame quarterbacks. 2. Everyone wants to play for the
greatest sports franchise in the history of sports franchises. However, but for
some unfathomable reason he turns Thompson down and signs as a backup who won’t
play to Tom Brady.
Everyone knows this
was the best move “Ted Terrific” could make to save the next 6 games until the
third coming of Bart Starr and the second coming of Brett Favre returns to
actually save the season and lead the Packers to its 9th straight playoff
appearance tying the NFL record, which we all know by direct statements by
Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy, Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy this year
is the only thing the Packers Front Office and Coaching Staff really cares
about and not actually making the Super Bowl, but I digress.
However, that was
just a fantasy. Ted Thompson didn’t pull a hamstring, he didn’t make that call
and he didn’t offer a contract to Hoyer, who did receive that call from
“Dynasty Bill” and signed with the New England Patriots leaving the Packers out
in the cold. Thusly the latest chapter in “Real World Green Bay”.
