FAKE NEWS – Thompson Style, Part Infinity

The Curious Case of Benjamin “Marty Bennett” Button
The marquis free agent signing by General Manager Ted Thompson, who for the first time since 2012 jumped into the free agent market was tight end Martellus Bennett even though the most pressing needs were on the defensive side. CURIOUS.

However, this great signing has turned into a nightmare of mythic proportions with the Packers claiming subterfuge by Bennett and Bennett is claiming his right to be injured, which has happened every week to the Packers with a vengeance this season, so why now turn this injury into a national incident. VERY CURIOUS INDEED.

But as we’ve been told many, many, many, etc times by the “In Ted We Trust” militants Ted Thompson can do NO wrong. Every move he makes is supremely correct and fills the most pressing needs of the team to keep the record playoff appearance streak alive, which actually has been kept alive by just 1 person and 1 person alone quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who just happens to be Ted Thompson’s 1st ever draft pick back in 2005. VERY CURIOUS.

So when the indispensible man went down and the streak was in trouble what happened? 1st Head Coach Mike McCarthy comes out in an angry press conference and says, “Did you just listen to the question I just answered? I’ve got three years invested in Brett Hundley, two years invested in Joe Callahan, the quarterback room is exactly where it needs to be. OK? We’re fortunate to have a great quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, we’re committed to the path we’re on. We need to play better as a football team. Brett Hundley will start this week and Joe Callahan will be the backup”. MCCARTHY CURIOUS.

So with that said there was NO, NADA consideration or effort made to sign a veteran quarterback until Rodgers could return with 3 games left in the regular season. As it turns out the injury to Rodgers and lack of effort to bring in a veteran quarterback seems to be important to the conspiracy theorists concerning Marty Bennett. CURIOUS.

So back to Benjamin “Marty Bennett” Button, who earned his 1st Super Bowl ring last year as a member of the New England Patriots with 55 catches for 701 yards and 7 TDs after being acquired by a trade with da Bears with 1 year left on a 4-year contract $20.5 million contract. NOT SO CURIOUS.

As it turned out it seems he couldn’t care less about Super Bowls rings, so he went for the $ and signed a 3-year, $20,250,000 contract with the Packers, which at that time was seriously thought to be a Super Bowl contender with Rodgers. However, we all know they are actually just a playoff contender, but let’s put that aside. VERY CURIOUS OR NOT.

However, instead of being rejuvenated by a chance to play with the greatest quarterback in the game today Bennett wasn’t Benjamin Button getting younger, but he was more like the picture of Dorian Gray as he aged 10 years in a very short period of time in the clarified air of the North Woods. He became slow and dropped passes and didn’t even get near to the end zone, which was the main reason Thompson went after him in the 1st place to be a target in the red zone like Richie Rodgers hasn’t been. CURIOUS.

Fast forward to October 15 when Rodgers was lost for the foreseeable future. Bennett who had started the first 6 games started the following week against the Saints. With Brett Hundley throwing Bennett caught 2 of the 3 passes thrown his way for 17 yards. NOT SO CURIOUS.

Here’s where the conspiracy comes in. Evidently that game was enough for Bennett to decide without Rodgers he didn’t want to play in Green Bay anymore. So during the bye week he announced he was probably going to retire after the season and then he came up with a mysterious shoulder injury that took the Packers by surprise in order for them to put on injured reserve so he could collect his full salary for the season. Remember if he did retire he would be giving up the final 2 yeas of his contract and most contracts are back loaded so that would be a considerable chunk of change. But I guess he could collect $10 million on his insurance policy like Jermichael Finley did and that would make up for the lost of the 2 years. PRETTY DEVIOUS AND CURIOUS.

Bennett was inactive for the Lions game last Monday and then circumstances snowballed and around 5 p.m. Wednesday Bennett was put on waivers with the only official announcement (and I assume Packers.com is the official mouthpiece of the Packers) being this: The Green Bay Packers have waived TE Martellus Bennett. The transaction was announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson. UNDERSTATED AND CURIOUS.

This came out of the blue with none of the beat writers having a clue this was about to happen since 4 hours earlier Head Coach Mike McCarthy announced Bennett was already ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Bears. I guess McCarthy was technically right Bennett won’t be playing against the Bears. I’m hoping McCarthy was also left out of the loop instead of issuing a false statement. DANGEROUSLY CURIOUS.

Then all the background stories started to come out when it was also announced he was waived citing “failure to disclose a physical condition”. It has been floated that Bennett really doesn’t have a shoulder injury and he just wanted out of Green Bay because the Packers are going nowhere fast. So I guess the Packers didn’t have their team physician examine Bennett when he was put on the injury list for a shoulder issue the week before the bye. I guess Bennett just told them he had an injured shoulder and Thompson left it at that. INCOMPETENT AND CURIOUS.

I think the Thompson FAKE NEW machine went to work last night. Many are saying the “FTDAPC” citation was used to get Bennett’s signing bonus back. It seems the Packers have already paid $8 million of his contract and Thompson wants some of that $ back. I think that is all that citation is about and not actual subterfuge. SHAME ON US AND CURIOUS.

Now we will find out whether the conspiracy theorists are right. When he clears waivers today at 3 p.m. (because nobody wants to inherit the 3-year contract) we will find out whether the Patriots (the other half of the conspiracy theory is the Patriots want him back and he wants to go back to Boston) claim him. He will then have to past their physical in order to play this weekend. If he does then Thompson was snookered and Bennett is one of those “sons of bitches” Trump was talking about. SHAME ON YOU AND CURIOUS.
1 preseason game: No bum shoulder there.
If he doesn’t then the Packers are issuing false statements. I can’t see how Bennett could have played the 1st 7 games being the lead blocker for the running game with a bum shoulder. He may have been hurt during the Saints game and if he was then how did he not disclose a physical condition. CURIOUS.
Week 5: No bum shoulder there
However, let’s give Thompson the benefit of the doubt. Let’s say Bennet was suffering from a shoulder injury he acquired last season and he somehow faked his physical with the Packers when he signed and somehow hid it for 7 games while catching 24 passes, falling to the ground 24 times and blocking the rest of the time. That is the only way for the Packers to use the “FTDAPC” citation. If that happened then the Packers are running an incompetent operation. FOOL ME ONCE SHAME ON ME AND CURIOUS.

I don’t think Bennett could have hide that injury all season, so I feel all of this is just another example of the FAKE NEWS operation out of 1265 Lombardi Avenue. The CURIOUS circumstances make me feel that this is all VERY CURIOUS.

UPDATE: Surprise, Surprise the Patriots claimed Bennett off of waivers. I guess they really wanted to sign him. We'll now wait to see if he passes their physical.
