It Seems Losing Aaron Rodgers Was Just Another Day at the Office

The Packers lost the greatest quarterback of our recent times (my times saw Brett Favre and Bart Starr) and here it is Wednesday 3 days later and all that has happened is Head Coach Mike McCarthy got mad at a press conference and General Manager Ted Thompson brought up a quarterback from the practice squad 2 days later and signed greener than green quarterback to the practice a day later.

The fallout of Rodgers injury and loss for maybe the entire season after undergoing surgery for his broken collarbone on his throwing side was to bring up Joe Callahan and signing Jerod Evans, who spent a total of 3 days with the Eagles at their rookie camp before being cut with a foot injury.

I don’t have the waiver wires in front me and know who could be available for trade, but there has to be some veteran quarterback out there that could provide veteran backup in case Brett Hundley and Joe Callahan fall on their faces.

I know it is a pride thing with both Thompson and McCarthy that they spent years grooming Hundley to be a NFL quarterback and Callahan to be a backkup, but the season isn’t lost yet, but it could be when both men swallow their pride and try to keep the season going while waiting for Rodgers to heal and save their asses the final weeks.

Here’s what McCarthy said when asked about signing Colin Kaepernick “Did you just listen to the question I just answered? I’ve got three years invested in Brett Hundley, two years invested in Joe Callahan, the quarterback room is exactly where it needs to be. OK? We’re fortunate to have a great quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, we’re committed to the path we’re on. We need to play better as a football team. Brett Hundley will start this week and Joe Callahan will be the backup”.

Well, there you go. That clears it up Hundley, Callahan and Evans are the best quarterbacks there are in the NFL today to lead the Packers to the Promised Land.

The signing of Evans is curious considering he is a major project and will have NO and I mean NO impact on the team this season. The Packers are in crisis mode right now and Thompson and McCarthy seem to facing it as another day at the office dealing with another injured starter. Aaron Rodgers is not just another starter.

In fact here’s what an Eagle scribe said about Evans when he was cut: After leading the Hokies to a 10-4 season behind 3,500 yards passing and 29 touchdowns, Evans unexpectedly made the decision to enter the NFL Draft after his lone season at the FBS level. The decision was a head-scratcher, at best, due to Evans’ inaccuracy on deep throws and lack of overall polish as a passer.
Putting aside Tony Romo and Colin Kaepernick (both have been out too long to get up to speed quick enough to help) a quick review of 2nd & 3rd string quarterbacks finds Chad Henne, Derek Anderson, Brock Osweiler, Ryan Mallett, Tom Savage, Scott Tolzien, Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Case Keenum could be available. I like Callahan, but a veteran presence is needed if the season is to be saved.

Think about this if the Packer Brain Trust is looking for a project I bet Jay Cutler could be had and wouldn’t having Cutler saving the Packers season be the story of the season. But it seems Thompson and McCarthy have thrown in the towel instead of looking for ways to save the season.
