A FIND FROM AMONG THE BUSTS

Free Agency Wave three or two and a half or whatever they call the week after the second wave is still in half full swing until the draft (April 30) and General Manager Ted Thompson made his first big signing and I say that totally tongue in cheek.

All of a sudden the announcement went out that Thompson had signed a free agent and a defensive back a that after losing Tramon Williams and Davon House and I went totally giddy waiting to find out what veteran free agent he was able to pick off for a bargain basement price. THEN I read it was Kyle Sebetic and my giddiness turned to................disappointment.

Kyle (Sebby) Sebetic. That name strikes terror in the hearts of all who hear it. He was a stud cornerback at the University of Dayton and here's his official video and bio:

2013
Sebetic completed his stellar career at Dayton by starting in all 11 games for the Flyers during the 2013 season. He recorded 63 tackles, which included 46 solo tackles. He also had an interception and was named First Team All-PFL for his performance.

2012
A three-year starter at cornerback, Sebetic led NCAA FCS football in passes defensed in 2012. He had 15 passes broken up and three interceptions in nine games, for a 2.0 per game average. He also had 52 total tackles and was second on the team with 39 solos. Sebetic was also named preseason First Team All-PFL and a co-captain for 2013.

2011
He started eight of the nine games he appeared in. He recorded 31 tackles with two pass breakups to go along with one forced fumble.

2010
Sebetic started all 11 games as a redshirt freshman. He had an impressive season as he ranked fifth on the team in tackles from the cornerback position with 51. 31 of his tackles were solo, and he recorded two sacks for a loss of four yards. He also had one interception, broke up four passes and recovered one fumble.

In addition he's from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin and attended Tremper High School in Kenosha (I have a Kenosha story I might tell you guys someday when it is slow) where he all-conference, all-county, and selected to play in the Wisconsin All-Star game as well as a member of the National Honor Society. Now that's a stud if you saw one.

He was a Pro Day marvel running a 4.51 in the 40, having a 36.5 vertical leap and a time of 6.69 in the 3-cone (which by the way was better than all, but one defensive back at the 2015 Combine. He was listed as the 25th best small college free safety in the country before the draft.

But even with all his studliness he was on the outside looking in at the 2014 NFL draft. He finally signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent as a safety on June 3. He was cut on August 26 and then signed to the practice squad on November 5, but was cut a week later on November 12. He's been unemployed ever since until the "Great Cheap Talent Finder" plucked him from obscurity and made him a member of the great sports franchise in the history of sports (even ranked higher than the Coliseum Gladiators of ancient Rome). If anyone cares (and I do) he was issued No. 25.

Now let's step back and review. One of the greatest defensive backs in the history of Dayton wasn't drafted and was signed by a team who needed defensive backs, but couldn't catch on and was cut. He was re-signed for a second a look and lasted only a week. I think that ranks him somewhere below me on the totem pole and I'm so low on the totem pole that when I look up I see dirt.

So it seems TT (as his sycophants call him) saw something at the inaugural NFL Veterans Combine the Giants (and that could be a very distinct possibility) and the entire rest of the NFL scouting and personnel departments (and even if he is a genius I doubt he's better than everyone) doesn't know. But then again he is the General Manager of the great sports franchise in the history of sports and we all know the Packers can do no wrong if you forget the seasons from 1945 to 1958 and 1968 to 1991 ever occurred. The younger Packers fans have only known the TT years and most of the others, except us oldsters, have only been around since 1992. Who am I to dissuade them of their fantasies? I also won't tell them that Santa Claus................oops. NEVER MIND.

Back from another tangent. Now where was a I? Sebetic. I've already learned to spell his name without looking it up. (I did get it right didn't I?). So maybe he is slated to replace Williams and House at cornerback. After they left the Packers definitely have a need for corners and the Great Sebetic was a corner. Isn't that what free agency is all about. Have a need fill a need not like the draft where you draft the best player available without a regard to position.

If you watch his video he seems to have cover skills and an ability to hit and tackle. Let's hope TT is right and he's actually found a stud among the rejects. There you go TT lovers I'm on your side.

OBTY: He hasn't been issued a jersey yet, but let's hope he gets #26 and lives up it. Look it up you boys and girls because it is a studly number if there ever was one.
