FROM THE SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS, PART TJUGOETT

The Best Rivalry In Sports In My Opinion
RIDICULOUS

George Halas and Curly Lambeau

Recently MSN.com (9/28/16) ran a FoxSports.com list of the 8 Best Rivalries in the NFL Today ranked. Of course, the Packers and Bears, the longest rivalry in sports, was ranked first, as it should be, but I'm getting ahead of the story. Read on McDuff.

So now we'll go the list of the Top 8 Best Rivalries in the NFL Today starting with their premise: Familiarity breeds contempt-- an idea that’s reaffirmed between NFL division rivals twice and sometimes three times a year. But especially in the era of NFL parity, rivalries ebb and flow. It helps a rivalry when both teams are riding high, the games are closely contested, the combatants win a relatively equal share of games and there’s a lot at stake. With that in mind, we’ve ranked the top eight rivalries in the NFL today.

Vince Lombardi and 'Papa Bear' George Halas

No. 8: Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams (seems this one is so intense it made the list even though the Rams have played the Seahawks just one game and that ended in a 9-3 win for the relocated Rams in Los Angeles and not in that hotbed of rivalry Seattle. My point here is that they should have said St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, but maybe I'm just piking at nits).

No. 7: Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings (I'll let the FOXers explain this one and I agree although I would have ranked this one a bit higher). "Brett Favre wearing a Vikings jersey represented a strange two-year period for everyone involved in 2009-2010. That aside, for the most part Green Bay has dominated Minnesota since the start of the 2010 season. That unevenness prompted Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer to say in mid-September, "We need to beat them a lot more often for it to be a rivalry." Thanks to an inspired performance by brand new starting quarterback Sam Bradford in Week 2, the Vikings won another one to make it two in a row. Perhaps this is the dawn of a contentious new chapter up north -- a welcomed development for Minnesotans who live in close proximity to many Packers fans and don’t much like hearing about how mighty the Packers are. Packers-Bears is acrimonious but now the Packers can’t ignore the Zimmer-led Norsemen. "Packers fans are so quick to talk about how many Super Bowls they have won versus our none," one Vikings fan wrote in 2015. "I respect them as an organization, with them being the only community-owned team, and a team with a long history and tradition, but mainly my hatred is toward the arrogant 'We're so high and mighty' Packers fans." There's a good chance this year’s NFC North winner may come down to the second Packers-Vikings clash of the season on Christmas Eve on Lambeau Field." (It seems they are setting up the Packers and Bears and I can't wait to hear what they say about it).

No. 6: Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins (The interesting thing about this rivalry is that the Redskins haven't been good for a long time, but this former intense rivalry still makes the list. Remember this point).

No. 5: Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots (This is a new one and it was only because of Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning. How this one makes the list is beyond me since Peyton is sitting in the robe and slippers trying to remain relevant after retiring).

No. 4: New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles (This is a good one and does deserve to be on the list).

No. 3: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens (This is a relatively new kid on the block since the Ravens have only been around since 1996, but it is still an intense personal one and should have made the list).

(Now we're getting there. Does the Packers-Bears make No. 1 or does the Steelers-Bengals edge them out. We'll now find out).

No. 2: New England Patriots vs. New York Jets (Hummm, didn't see that one coming at this point. I will take their word this East Coast rumble in the Suburbs is worthy. So that means the Steelers-Bengals didn't make the Top 8).

And now the top Best Rivalry in the NFL Today is (I can't wait to see what they say about Curly Lambeau and George Halas, Vince Lombardi and Papa Bear, and more recently Lovie Smith making beating the Packers the highlight of his season and many, many other examples over the 95 years of this hatred).

No. 1: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals (WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

"This one is so beautiful and so ugly. It turned from a chippy AFC North battle into a full-fledged rivalry when Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis came to Cincinnati in 2003. In 2005, the resurgent Bengals met the Steelers in the AFC Wild Card game when Steelers lineman (and former Bengal) Kimo von Oelhoffen tackled Bengals QB Carson Palmer low -- and Palmer got twisted and tore his ACL. The hit came on Palmer’s first and only attempt -- a 66-yard bomb to Chris Henry. The game remains a bitter memory for Bengals fans as the Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl. The ensuing 10 years saw heated battles, a lot of Steeler wins, finally a Bengals season sweep in the 2009 season and come 2015, things started to get uglier, culminating in the AFC Wild Card penalty flag fiesta that saw some truly bizarre events: a personal foul on Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak for grabbing safety Reggie Nelson’s hair on the sideline, and later a personal foul on Bengals DB Adam Jones for making contact with an official when Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter entered the field of play. It was mayhem. “I actually saw [the rivalry] really turn into what it's become last year” said former Bengals wideout Marvin Jones. "It was always heat of the game, but it never got too frisky and stuff like that. It was just always a good, ground-and-pound AFC North game. But after last year obviously it spiked up and I'm not going to say I didn't like it. ... It just made me feel like, 'Man, this is football. This is gritty and this is grimy.'" It’s gritty and grimy and sometimes rivalries bring out the worst out in players but more often it brings out the best. The first Bengals-Steelers matchup of this season was relatively peaceful as far as those games go."

Well there you have it. It seems the FOXers are not of the Old School, but of the What Have You Done For Me Lately School. It seems Jay Cutler even shit on the most storied rivalry in the history of sports when it doesn't even make the Top 8 or even an honorable mention mention. If it did get bumped out because the Bears have sucked for a while then why did the Cowboys-Redskins make the list. All I can say is THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

Nothing More To Say
ILLEGAL, SAD AND RIDICULOUS

Accept My Apology Mr Moschel
Michael Rand of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that a Packers fan allegedly stabbed a Vikings fan seven times on the Sunday after the Vikings' 31-13 over the Texans.

Here's the facts: Dave Moschel of Stoughton, Wisconsin confronted a 21-year old man who was vandalizing an inflatable Viking in his yard. During the resulting fight Moschel was stabbed with a box cutter.

A result of the incident was the Vikings invited Moschel to a future practice and the November 20 game against the Cardinals.

I found this incident sad that a Packer fan (I won't call him a Packer Backer) would do this. I'm glad Mr. Moschel wasn't seriously hurt.

I put Packer Backers up on a pedestal as THE example of the best fans in the sports world. I apologize for this idiot. I am so ashamed.

SUBLIME

Real Packers Fans
RIDICULOUS AGAIN

Joe Buck And His Ever Expanding Forehead
I come from a part of the country where Jack Buck was the top baseball broadcaster. I actually met him and hope he rests in peace. However, his son Joe Buck is not one of my favorite people mainly because he thinks he is good and acts accordingly.

I found this story and had to laugh. Maybe you will, too. This happened in 2011 and I have to admit I don't remember it. The long and the short of it is that Mr. Buck had hair plug surgery and the result was a paralyzed left vocal cord that jeopardized his career from March to October of that year.

He lied to his bosses and the public about his affliction and just came clean in his soon to be released autobiography, "Lucky Bastard: My Life, My Dad, And The Things I’m Not Allowed To Say On TV".

NOW THAT IS RIDICULOUS
