Ted Thompson Has Curious Office Hours

Watching the Packers.com transaction section is a mission in frustration. First, Packers.com is the ABSOLUTELY last place to go for timely news. The national news wires have Packers news quicker than Packers.com, so I normally don't check it.

Second, General Manager Ted Thompson only does business on Friday and Saturday. He makes moves for the next game at the last minute so whatever player he picks up doesn't have time to get ready for the game, leaving the Packers with one or two players unable to contribute.

Once again this happened this week. Cornerback Demetri Goodson, who had finally began to contribute in his third season, was placed on injured reserve after suffering a very serious knee injury three games ago against the Titans.

It was obvious he wasn't going to be able to play anymore this season, but Thompson kept him on the active roster for two games before making the move. What sort of malfeasance is this playing one player down for two games?

So 20 days after suffering the injury Goodson was placed on injured reserve on Saturday and undrafted free agent cornerback Makinton Dorleant was activated from injured reserve using the one and only designated for return distinction.

This could have been done on Nov. 14 or even earlier this week, so Dorleant would be ready to contribute, but NOOOOOOOOO. This is not how the Thompsonater rolls. He does everything so backassward. I...........will hold my breath so I won't say anything the Tedders, Ask Vic and Mark Murphy can ban me from Lambeau Field over.

While watching the weekend transaction dump I also noticed without any fanfare at all that the Packers have re-signed quarterback Joe Callahan to the practice squad replacing wide receiver Dez "Not That Dez" Stewart, who was released.

Callahan, who was the only bright spot during the preseason, was released from the 53-man roster on 10/13 after the Giants game in Week 5 and was picked up off waivers by the Saints on 10/14 where he spent 8 days before being cut on10/22 after being inactive for 1 game.

He was then claimed off waivers by the Browns on 10/24 where he spent 5 games on the inactive list before being cut on 11/28 (last Monday). He was signed on Friday (12/2), of course.

It's nice to have him back, but he is not the second coming of Drew Brees and if the quarterback poor Browns didn't keep him then why waste a spot since he realistically is not a starting NFL quarterback. The Packers need quality players and not just cheap-ass fill-ins.

It looks to me Ted Thompson is just playing out the string whether he knows it or not or Ask Vic knows it or not or Mark Murphy knows it or not or the Tedders know it or not or the Board of Directors knows it or not or the Packer Backers know it or not, but I know it.

The Packers need new direction from the top on down to the coaching staff. Let's hope someone besides me realizes that before the Packers sink back into the third Wilderness Years.
