M*A*S*H Report Packer Style

Randall Cobb Non-Catch Injury
People seem to want me to comment on Randall Cobb admitting he had a punctured lung and is now doing well and Aaron Rodgers doing well after his minor knee surgery, despite the fact I felt there wasn't much to say about those non-stories.
The story would have been if Cobb died or had his lung removed or the doctors had repaired the wrong knee or amputated Rodgers' leg. But for both of them to say things are fine seemed to me that it didn't require any in-depth analysis since I already mentioned a few posts ago about Rodgers having knee surgery and mentioned at the time Cobb was injured I thought he had a punctured lung, despite the official word being a chest injury. You don't spit up blood with a chest injury.

Randall Cobb Spitting Up Blood
However, Cobb did say something news worry when he was a guest on the Jim Rome Show two weeks ago, "I made the catch. I got up and felt fine. I was walking back to the huddle, and I just noticed that it got harder for me to breathe, and then it felt like I was going to throw up. It felt like I was choking on something, so I went to throw up and then I started spitting up blood and it was kind of a crazy moment. Then I went back and got the chest x-ray. I didn’t break a rib, I didn’t fracture a rib, which is really abnormal to puncture a lung without that, but I was mic’d up for the game. The battery pack for the mic was on my shoulder pads. I landed flush on my back during the catch, and I punctured my lung. There’s no way to prove that, but it’s kind of crazy that I punctured a lung without fracturing my rib.”

The only thing I can add to Rodgers' situation is over the weekend I was at a high school wrestling sectional and spent time with our local wrestling Olympian (1964, 1968).

Anyway we were talking and the subject of injuries came up and I asked him what his worse injury was after one wrestler had collapsed and had to be taken to the hospital earlier in the day and we were in a delay as a wrestler was being treated for a severe shoulder injury from being slammed to the mat.

He said his worst injury was not as a wrestler, but a knee injury he had suffered playing college football. He also said relatively recently he had a knee replacement on that knee and because of an infection he picked up in the hospital during post-op he also lost his leg.

He had a temperature of 105 and the doctors were ready to amputate because the drugs he was given weren't working, but he wouldn't give them permission. He consulted another doctor and he gave him a drug most doctors wouldn't give him, but since he was at the point of losing his leg he agreed and it worked and saved his leg.

So if Rodgers' had developed an infection or some other screw up that would have a story to talk about  But in my opinion Rodgers skipping the Pro Bowl and then playing golf at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am over the weekend (maybe that says more about the screwed up Pro Bowl than his surgery) didn't rise to in-depth analysis. NEWS ALERT: He missed the cut.

Aaron Rodgers' Post-Surgery Rehab
OBTW Jordy Nelson was playing pitch and catch on the sidelines during the playoffs, but beyond a mention nobody (and I include myself) thought this was much of story either.

T.J. Lang
The only other player to have surgery since the season ended on another non-call (the 2-point conversion) was right guard T. J. Lang, who had surgery on his right shoulder, but delayed or decided not to have surgery on his left. NEWS ALERT: He lived.
