The Rest of the Draft (B+)

Finally An Inside Linebacker - Blake Martinez
Once again General Manager Ted Thompson took my suggestion and finally drafted an inside linebacker with the first pick of round four (#133) and one that I had suggested in Blake Martinez (6-2, 237) from Stanford. (5.3)

Evidently the analyst at NFL.com thought third round pick outside linebacker Kyler Fackrell was actually an inside linebacker when they made this comment about Martinez, "In that base 3-4 defense, he has to an inside guy. So, now what do they do with Kyler Fackrell? Do they move Fackrell outside and play Martinez inside?"

Thompson Goes 3 for 3

Jason Spriggs Could Take David Bakhtiari's Left Tackle Job
I have to give General Manager Ted Thompson credit for being the only person on the planet that is reading this blog and for taking my advice that getting a left offensive tackle is a priority and on the second day he took Jason Spriggs from Indiana.

Spriggs was the fifth ranked offensive tackle before the draft and was the sixth taken overall and first in the second round.  The top four were Laremy Tunsil, Ronnie Stanley, Jack Conklin and Taylor Decker with No. 6 being Germain Ifedi.

Spriggs was slated late first-early second round and Ifedi second round, but the Seahawks jumped Spriggs to take Ifedi, who is more suited to play right tackle after failing at left tackle at Texas A&M.

The second round was going quickly with three defensive ends, five linebackers, two defensive tackles, a nose tackle (not Andrew Billings), two wide receivers, a cornerback, the top tight end and the top running back coming off the board.

The Pick Is In And The Reaction Is Mixed

The New Man On Defense Kenny Clark from UCLA
General Manager Ted Thompson was in the cat bird seat when pick 27 rolled around and he had some big names and some cheaper names to choose from and true to form he chose cheap.

The big names that made the same slide Aaron Rodgers did in Thompson's first draft at a position that I consider the most important to fill were outside linebacker Myles Jack, inside linebacker Jaylon Smith and inside linebacker Reggie Ragland.

Thompson and I truly mean Thompson, because he made the pick and nobody else, especially the scouts, picked a 6-3, 314 defensive tackle from UCLA Kenny Clark. Many felt linebacker and defensive line were the top two need areas and Thompson evidently thought so too, even though the smoke coming from Lyin' Ted was wide receiver, tight end and running back.

Lyin' Ted and the 2016 Draft Preview

Don't Believe Your Lyin' Eyes Believe What I'm Telling You
While I was hibernating I had the TV on in the background so I was absorbing by osmosis all the news that's was fit to hear and a lot more than was just plain bullshit.

When I woke up five days early I thought maybe the regeneration mechanism had kicked on because General Manager Ted Thompson had signed a major free agent (well, that was also bullshit and I knew it almost immediately because hell hadn't froze over), so I went to Plan B and figured Thompson had traded up to get the No. 3 pick from the San Diego Chargers to have the pick of the litter that was not a quarterback, but once again that didn't happen.

So I took a shower, a very much needed shower I must say, mowed the lawn, weeded the gardens and the patio, which also needed weeded, and took a second much needed shower and sat down to figure out why I was summoned from the lull in Packerland that is known as the time between being eliminated in the playoffs and the morning of the draft.

The Black Hole of Brown County

The Black Hole of Brown County Doesn't Look So Black Unless You Want News from 1265 Lombardi Avenue
I had hoped my campaign for the firing of General Manager Ted Thompson and now President Mark Murphy would be gaining steam, but I sincerely doubt it, so enough of unattainable missions, including winning a Super Bowl before the 2019 season and back to the real world outside of the Green Bay Packers Front Office or what is commonly known as the Black Hole of Brown County because information goes in and none comes out.
