FROM THE SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS, PART ZWEI

FROM THE SUBLIME

If any of you are keeping score 10 posts ago in the first edition of "From the Sublime to the Ridiculous" I was talking about Mr. and Mrs. Sean McEvoy from North Carolina who had purchased a genuine Vince Lombardi artifact - his West Point sweater - from a local Goodwill shop for $0.58. At the time if was estimated the value at auction (I love Antiques Roadshow) would be around $20,000.

As Paul Harvey used to say, "and now for the rest of the story". The sweater was donated to the Goodwill by Ann Wannamaker, the widow of Bill Wannamaker, a fellow coach at West Point with Lombardi.

The McEvoys put the sweater up for auction at Heritage Auction in Dallas and the winning bid was $36,000 and after a 19.5% buyer's premium is tacked on the total came to $43,020. Add kudos to the auction house for donating their share of the transaction to Goodwill like Mrs. Wannamaker had requested.

THROUGH THE INTERESTING

Packers left offensive tackle David Bakhtiari introduced a game to the locker room that has turned into an addiction. Most of the offensive line and many others spend long nights at "The Shrine" or at Bakhtiari's house playing the board game "Settlers of Catan". I guess there's not much to do at night in Green Bay, although I have heard from a very reliable source there are some very friendly strippers near to Lambeau Field. But since James Lofton's unfortunate liaison back in the day I guess you won't be seeing any current Packer players inside or in doorways near a strip club. So game on, guys.

AND THE MOVIES

Speaking of Bakhtiari he does other things than keep Aaron Rodgers upright and play board games. He along with T. J. Lang, Josh Sitton (at least for now he's a Packer), Don Barclay and Clay Matthews have a cameo in the movie "Pitch Perfect 2".

Continuing on the movie theme Packers all-time leading rusher Ahman "Batman" Green has a non-speaking role in the upcoming movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as a villain and not the starring role as Batman. It seems some guy named Ben Affleck aced him out for the starring role. Politics, I guess.

Ok, let's finish up with a trip down memory lane. Brett Favre had a co-starring role, more or less, in "There's Something About Mary" (1998) as himself as Cameron Diaz's former boyfriend.

Here's another "Something About Mary" clip:

The back story is that Drew Bledsoe was the first choice of the Farrelly Brothers, but he hurt his neck in a mosh pit accident and had to pull out. Steve Young was then offered the part and he turned it down because it was a R-rated movie and being a Morman he couldn't be involved in such a project.

Another interesting tidbit about this was Favre's agent told the producers to make sure no one asked Favre for his autograph or he wouldn't come, so to speak. The Diva doesn't fall to far from the tree.

Favre wasn't the first Packer to appear in a movie. Ray Nitschke appeared as Private One in the Monkees' movie "Head" (1968) and as Bogdanski in the "The Longest Yard" (1974) and Ben "Tree" Davidson (yes, he was a Packer in 1961) played football player #88 in "M*A*S*H (1970).

In case you missed it Aaron Rodgers had a speaking part on the TV series "The Office" as a talent judge in the episode A.A.R.M. (season 9-episode 22) that aired May 9, 2013. He also appeared this past January on the Key and Peele Super Bowl Special as A.A. Ron Rodgers. It seems TV is Rodgers' medium (Discount Double Check), but with a movie star girlfriend are the movies not far behind.

Funny I should say that since rumors have it that Mark Tauscher and John Kuhn have been signed to appear in a movie that hasn't gone into production yet. The producers are hoping to also sign up Rodgers and Olivia Munn. It's called "The Sixty-Yard Line" and is a romantic comedy about a couple who bought a house next to Lambeau Field to park cars and tailgate on game days. Imagine the hilarity that could ensue from that premise. And since it's a romantic comedy I guess they plan sex scenes between Rodgers and Munn for the romantic part. Put me down for a cameo. I have experience

TO THE RIDICULOUS

I couldn't find anything ridiculous to talk about this week, so I will fall back on a few ridiculous pictures of Packers' tattoos.
